Interactive Fiction allows you to type natural language commands that are translated to the story. If you want to know more about the creators of the game, type ABOUT. The Map In order to move around the setting of an Interactive Fiction, the most common method is to use compass directions. With the exception of the first scene "the chamber", where the moving directions are left, right, and forward. For the remaining rooms and spaces of the game: north, south, east, west, as well as northeast, northwest, southeast, southwest. You can abbreviate these with n, s, e, w, ne, nw, se, sw. Other directional commands include in, out, up or u, and down or d. Puzzles During the game you will encounter some puzzles and mysteries within the story. You may need to open something, find something, discover something, wear something, use something, go somewhere, and more. Sometimes the best solution if you are stuck is to type look (l); examine (x); or inventory (i), and re-read where you are or what you are carrying and wearing in order to find a clue to advance. Commands The commands are used by typing a verb, and sometimes a verb followed by a noun. The most useful and widely used commands include: Examine, abbreviated as x Look, abbreviated as l Take, abbreviated as t Drop Inventory, abbreviated as i Open Smell Touch Some examples: go north, look, examine table, open door, etc. You can get creative and try with other actions. Some commands require the combination of an action with a single object, as in examine mattress. Other commands can have a more complex syntax, such as light candle stub with candle, or look under (the) table. Try experimenting the richness of language and the varieties of combinations available. Extras Some other useful tools are: SAVE saves your progress so far RESTORE allows you to recover saved files RESTART restarts to the very beginning at the sake of loosing all your progress UNDO allows you to undo up to five previous moves >map >look The room is completely empty, silent, cold and humid, you shiver. Even if you have been in the dark for long enough you can't distinguish any object. >inventory You are empty-handed. >examine me Your hands travel throughout your body, you can't even see your feet, you are wearing a pair of blue jeans, a linen shirt and a woollen cardigan. You are not sure if this is what you were wearing last night. Something small seems to live in one of your pockets. Apart from an eerie sensation, you don't feel any pain, all your parts are there, and your body feels normal in spite of being cold. Your legs feel a bit numb. >examine jeans You are not sure if this is what you were wearing last night. Your clothes smell like freshly washed, they fit comfortable, you can't distinguish their colours, they feel soft and fit for you. Something small seems to live in one of your pockets. >examine pocket In your jeans left front pocket there is a tiny key that you return to its place. In the right front pocket there is a ball of lint and paper scraps that seem to have been washed in the machine. You find nothing in your back pockets. >examine ball of lint These small scraps show that the jeans were washed recently. The pieces disassemble into nothing in your hands. >examine pocket You are carrying: a tiny key >examine me Your hands travel throughout your body, you can't even see your feet, you are wearing a pair of blue jeans, a linen shirt and a woollen cardigan. You are not sure if this is what you were wearing last night. Apart from an eerie sensation, you don't feel any pain, all your parts are there, and your body feels normal in spite of being cold. Your legs feel a bit numb. >examine key A tiny golden key, you don't have any idea where it came from or what it opens. >inventory You are carrying: a tiny key >look You still can't see very well, you smell a familiar odour that you can't exactly connect to any particular other space. >smell A flash of memory stuck into you, travelling far away to the afternoon when the rain stopped and you and your cousins could finally go again to the garden. Suddenly, you picture her standing by the door like a sentry saying "Taking the Asterix books outside is absolutely forbidden" whilst catching every forgotten book from each kids" hands. >look chamber (on the soft surface) A faint grey light coming from a narrow line in the wall wakes you up from an uneasy sleep. Maybe it is the smell of the room that resembles to something else. Focusing your attention onto your body, your perception is telling you that you are lying on a soft surface. Your skin is covered in sweat in spite of the cold you are feeling. >knock floor Weirdly enough, it is not producing any sound. >examine light line The light line in the wall now seems to be shaped into a crack in the louvers. Now that you look with more attention it looks like a window. >examine window You try to look through the crack in the louvre but the light is blinding. >open window You are still on the bed, you want to stay longer even if it's not comfortable. Something in your gut tells you that you need to remain in the bed. You need to reflect on what that could be, there might be something hidden in its lumps for you. >north (first getting off the soft surface) You are still on the bed, you want to stay longer even if it's not comfortable any more (though it never was). Something in your guts tells you that you need to remain in the bed. You need to reflect on what that could be, there might be something hidden in its lumps for you. You would have to get off the soft surface first. >right You are still on the bed, you want to stay longer even if it's not comfortable any more (though it never was). Something in your guts tells you that you need to remain in the bed. You need to reflect on what that could be, there might be something hidden in its lumps for you. >examine soft surface Your hands caress the soft surface where your body is lying. It feels like a woollen mattress, without sheet or other bed linen, just a rough fabric and some lumps underneath. You crawl in the bed trying to reach farther, you touch a cold and sticky substance. >examine cold substance Your hand touches something cold and sticky. You try to grab it but it is no longer there, you smell your hand but it doesn't smell, it seems like it didn't exist at all. --Leaving wet traces-- >smell cold substance A flash of memory stuck into you, travelling far away to the afternoon when the rain stopped and you and your cousins could finally go again to the garden. Suddenly, you picture her standing by the door like a sentry saying "Taking the Asterix books outside is absolutely forbidden" whilst catching every forgotten book from each kids" hands. >examine mattress You reach one side of the mattress, you can touch the floor, it is a wooden floor, it feels like some boards are slightly bent, or out of their places, it might be a very old floor, with some empty space underneath to avoid humidity and to host insects and other living beings. Groping around and you find a small piece of what it feels like a candle. Then, you reach the other side of the mattress finding a damp wall. You find nothing in the wall, it is just cold and granulated, like a basic plaster mixed with sand. You start feeling anxious. >examine candle A blunt and small candle stub, it seems like some light might come in handy. >take candle Taken. >inventory You are carrying: a piece of candle a tiny key >get up The air up here feels rare. --the other's body carries a sense that shapes the memory-- the chamber In spite of the light coming through the window in front of you, it is still impossible to see anything. Groping through the wall you feel a corner with your right hand. >look the chamber In spite of the light coming through the window in front of you, it is still impossible to see anything. Groping through the wall you feel a corner with your right hand. >open window The window seems not to be there, your eyes can only focus on the abstract grey light beam through the crack. >knock wall Knock, knock...... silence. >go north You can't go that way. >go right the chamber You can't see anything, the window seems to be at your left, as it should be. You are facing the wall. >touch wall Your fingers are threatened by the roughness of the cold grainy wall. You see the grey light beam somewhere there. >right Your hands reach something different, something colder, elongated, and metallic: a hinge. You go on exploring the wooden surface of a door, you reach the handle. Your expectations are growing but also your anxiety. You still don't know where you are. And you hesitate at where you will be. What are you doing next? the chamber You can't see anything, the window seems to be in the opposite wall, as it should be. You are in front of a door. At your back, there is a strange room. --Cruelty is loaded with judgment-- If you go right, you go back to the window from the same direction you came from. >right Deciding not to open the door seems quite a decision, the air is still cold and rare. Your hands and feet move almost without you asking for it. --Anything could be warmer than this-- Some thoughts came to your mind: the snow and the cold make everything look monochromatic, as a black and white picture or a cyanotype. You feel lost, and lonely. the chamber You find another corner, in here the air seems to be less still, a waft of slightly warmer air comes in from the left. >right the chamber In spite of the light coming through the window in front of you, it is still impossible to see anything. Groping through the wall you feel a corner with your right hand. >left Your hands and feet move almost without you asking for it. You go on exploring the wall without any findings except of another corner, in the corner you get tangled in a small cobweb. the chamber You find another corner, in here the air seems to be less still, a waft of slightly warmer air comes in from the left. You can see a tangled cobweb here. >examine cobweb The gossamer clings to you. >forward You try to walk across the room in the dark, paying as much attention possible to your feet. You can't find the mattress, only the wooden floor all around you, wherever you step. You can't feel any wall. the chamber You can't see anything, the window seems to be at your left, as it should be. You are facing the wall. >left the chamber You can't see anything, the window seems to be in the opposite wall, as it should be. You are in front of a door. At your back, there is a strange room. If you go right, you go back to the window from the same direction you came from. >examine door You see nothing special about the wooden door. >touch door You feel nothing unexpected. >inventory You are carrying: a piece of candle a tiny key >open door The door opens with some effort, it is bloated and damp, you wonder when was the last time it was open. north wall Your eyes take a while in getting used to the dim light, it was so dark before that you almost forgot how to use your eyes. The door where you came from is here, closed, you didn't close it and you didn't even notice when or how it happened you don't want to go back there. In the wall next to the door, you notice some framed photographs. To the South you can see some light coming from a skylight and a corridor. >right Now that you can see more clearly, it is simpler to go north, east, west or south. >examine me You are wearing a pair of blue jeans, a linen shirt and a woollen cardigan. You are not sure if this is what you were wearing last night. Apart from an eerie sensation, you don't feel any pain, all your parts are there, and your body feels normal in spite of being cold. >examine clothes You are still not sure if this is what you were wearing last night. Your clothes smell like freshly washed, they fit comfortable, now that you can appreciate them, you realise that these are not your clothes, nor your style, even though they fit you perfectly. The whole outfit looks from another era, the blue jeans are high waisted light blue, worn but clean; the linen shirt is dark mauve; and the woollen cardigan is undefined cream coloured, with thin light blue threads mixed within the woven. >smell clothes It smells like damp air and old floor polish products. >examine door A wooden door that looks very old, now you can see that it is not so bloated as you felt before. >open door You are not keen on going back there. >examine wall You can't focus on the pictures, even if you try very hard, it is more likely that the photoggraphs are blurred (but why?). You can't get closer to the frames because a dusty table lies amongst you and the wall; you don't want to disturb the fine powder layer, not even by breathing close to it. It might be better to forget about the pictures. >examine photographs You can't focus on the pictures, even if you try very hard, it is more likely that the photoggraphs are blurred (but why?). You can't get closer to the frames because a dusty table lies amongst you and the wall; you don't want to disturb the fine powder layer, not even by breathing close to it. It might be better to forget about the pictures. >take photographs It's too risky to modify the dust, they are definitely out of reach. >examine table The table has a crochet table runner and a thick layer of dust. Looking at the dust closely you notice some marks that resemble objects that were once on the table, long and narrow marks, maybe more framed photographs, probably a vase would fit in the rounded dust-stencilled trace. You don't dare touching anything, afraid that you would leave a new imprint. >touch dust Mmmm.... better not to. >examine marks Stenciled shapes of what you deduce could have been frames, vases, or souvenirs. At the moment they are only reminiscences of an absent presence, it haunts you. >examine dust Stenciled shapes of what you deduce could have been frames, vases, or souvenirs. At the moment they are only reminiscences of an absent presence, it haunts you. >examine runner A handmade crochet table runner that spans from side to side of the table. It looks gray because of the accumulated dust, probably it was white or beige in the summit of its times. >take runner It seems impossible to take it without modifying the dust pattern. >look under table You find a baby Jesus in his wicker basket. What would it be doing there? You might not be able to find the answer this time. >examine jesus A ceramic baby Jesus in his wicker basket. >take jesus It could be bad luck to bring baby Jesus with you. >look north wall The door where you came from is here, closed, you don't want to go back there. In the wall next to the door, you notice some framed photographs. To the South you can see some light coming from a skylight and a corridor. >south under the skylight The room seems like a long corridor, the light coming from the skylight is not very strong, you can't see further than a couple of meters. The floor is made of alternated red and yellow tiles, it feels cold, you remember that you are barefoot when you realize the piercing contact with the cold floor. To the West there are three dark doors. To the South, there is an empty wall, some rectangular marks are imprinted with dust, and a couple of nails and holes are still in their place. To the South East there is another door with a small tin sign. To the East you can vaguely imagine that the corridor goes on, but it is too dark to know that for sure. >examine floor The floor is extremely cold and a bit wet, your feet leave subtee traces like soft gradients of condensation. The tiles look worn out. >west three doors spot You reach one end of the corridor, you are still under the light from the skylight. There are three doors around you, to the North, to the West and to the South. To the East is the last lit bit of the corridor under the skylight, but further away you can only see darkness. >examine north door A heavy and solid wooden door. >open north door The door to the North is locked, you can feel the deadbolt of the lock. >examine west door An old simple and heavy door, it looks lighter around the handle because of the erosion in the shellac. >open west door The door is not moving. It feels completely stuck, again, it must be damp. >examine south door A sturdy door with some scratches at the bottom, seems like it used to be opened with the help of one's foot. >open south door The door makes a weird noise but it does not open. You don't have enough energy to try harder. >east under the skylight The room seems like a long corridor, the light coming from the skylight is not very strong, you can't see further than a couple of meters. The floor is made of alternated red and yellow tiles, it feels cold, you are barefoot when you realize the piercing contact with the cold floor. To the West there are three dark doors. To the South, there is an empty wall. To the South East there is another door with a small tin sign. To the East you can vaguely imagine that the corridor goes on, but it is too dark to know that for sure. >south empty wall You stare very carefully holding your breath to avoid blowing the dust marks that sit on the wall. The traces resemble frames that you guess that might have been decorating the corridor. You wonder why the frames are not there anymore, but the nails still are. You can't avoid the comparison with the opposite wall where you have seen frames and pictures. >examine wall The dust marks and nail holes configure a strange picture by themselves. >examine nails The dust marks and nail holes configure a strange picture by themselves. >take nails That's hardly portable. >north under the skylight The room seems like a long corridor, the light coming from the skylight is not very strong, you can't see further than a couple of meters. The floor is made of alternated red and yellow tiles, it feels cold, you are barefoot when you realize the piercing contact with the cold floor. To the West there are three dark doors. To the South, there is an empty wall. To the South East there is another door with a small tin sign. To the East you can vaguely imagine that the corridor goes on, but it is too dark to know that for sure. >east dark spot of the corridor Carefully you step on the dark part of the corridor, you trip into some kind of structure that blocks your way into the darkness, you can barely distinguish some wooden ends, like chair or table legs, as if it was a pile of collapsed furniture. It is not that you are thrilled to know what is in the other side of the furniture pile, but you are still intrigued by it, maybe leave the exploration for another time. To the West you go back to under the skylight. To the North you can see an open door that leads to the living room. >examine chair Trying not to hurt yourself with splinters and not to collapse the strange structure, you examine the wooden pieces coming from the darkness. They do feel like chairs and tables, in random order and not very neatly organised. You can't reach another interpretation of this mess at the moment. >north (first opening a swinging door) The door swings back closed, the air moves your hair softly, caressing your face, you feel warmth. living room It is warmer here. It smells strange. The room resembles to a living room, but it has no furniture, only traces carved or unpolished in the wooden floor. There is one window facing North, a lot of light comes through it, the light appears to have a physical presence in the air by the flying dust and lint moving with laziness under the crisp limits of the sun beam. To the South is the swinging door to the corridor. To the East is a panel door, with eight glass lites, the funny odour intensifies in this direction, not unbearable though. >smell The smell is weird, but not completely unpleasant. It intensifies to the East. >examine traces The traces represent what probably had been chairs around a table, two armchairs, a coffee table, maybe also a TV table behind. The marks in the flooring reveal the presence of people for first time, there is no dust, only remains of where someone used to relax watching their favourite show. There are also outlines of frames in the walls. >examine window A double pane window, with green wooden open venetian blinds. The light from outside is too intense for your eyes already used to the darkness and shadows of the house, it hurts to look outside for too long and you can't distinguish any shape besides of a yellow-greenish color, most probably belonging to the grass or plants in the garden. >open window Stepping on the slow motion dust in the light beam, you get closer to the window, when your hand is near the knob, you decide to stay away from the light. >examine light The light appears to have a physical presence in the air by the flying dust and lint moving with laziness under the crisp limits of the sun beam. As you get closer to it, your steps move the air accelerating the dance of the particles. >examine dust The light appears to have a physical presence in the air by the flying dust and lint moving with laziness under the crisp limits of the sun beam. As you get closer to it, your steps move the air accelerating the dance of the particles. >east (first opening West glass door) A whisper advises you to close the door after you, or the wind currents will enter the house. "All doors in the foyer must be always closed". foyer In front of the main entrance, in the only wall without doors, is a thin walnut console with a key hanger, a Carrara marble countertop and a framed mirror. Behind the entrance door rests a pile of folded garden chairs, obstructing one of the panes of the double door, which opens to the inside. From the ceiling hangs a light pink alabaster lamp, it is daylight, so there is no need for it to be on. The odour gets funnier here. To the North is a closed double door to the garden or the main entrance door to the house. To the West is a closed wooden panel door with eight glass lites. To the East is a closed wooden panel door with eight glass lites and a translucent (once white, now grey) organza curtain. >smell The smell gets stronger in here, as the doors are shut it feels stuffed. >examine mirror The beveled mirror is corroded and opaque, it is hard to see your face in it with all the dark stains. >examine countertop A smooth Carrara marble surface to get rid of the several things that you carried in your pockets when you were outside the house. >examine console A thin walnut console with a key hanger, a Carrara marble countertop and a framed mirror. Its wooden parts are finely carved with leaves and geometric designs. >examine carrara A smooth Carrara marble surface to get rid of the several things that you carried in your pockets when you were outside the house. >examine key hanger Four empty metal key hooks in a row under the mirror. >examine chair A pile of white folded garden chairs rests behind the door pane. They look comfortable. There is not enough room to open one now. >take chair There is not enough room to open one of these now. >examine alabaster You can't find a switch for the lamp, it must be beautiful at night. >north (first opening a double door with glass lites) You don't want to go outside without wearing anything to protect your feet. >east (first opening East glass door) Filling your lungs with air, in case the smell get worse, you open the door. A whisper advises you to close the door after you, or the wind currents will enter the house, "all doors in the foyer must be always closed". The door squeaks as it opens. A dense hot air wall hits your face, it feels December noon, just before the summer starts in this part of the world. It is so silent and still, you pay attention, you stay immobile with all your senses aware. You are in the dark, in the South end of the room there is a dim glow, you can't see anything else. >smell Decaying is definitely not a well reputed smell. >north You can't go that way. >south There are some of candles in stands around an oblong box. The candles are lit but they don't light. From the box comes a very dim yellowish glow. Near the box there are some silhouettes and small glares. >smell A deep, old rotten smell invades your nostrils. Becomes present, ancient. >examine silhouettes The absolute darkness is not allowing you to see what the shapes stand for, you don't dare getting closer without any light source near you. >examine box It's too dark for you to see clearly. >light candle You light your stub of a candle on the larger, dim candle. It flickers into life, giving you slightly more illumination. >examine silhouettes There are four wreaths with different colours and species of flowers, some of them have purple signs with golden letters, but you don't know what they say. >examine box You find a letter on the coffin. As you read it, your candle burns out and the flame singes your hand. ----the corpse is the absolute image---- ---------------a precise death--------------- You throw down the candle in surprise and light once again enters the room. bedroom In the bedroom part of the room there is a window facing East, from where you can see the garden. There is a narrow corner closet hidden behind an arcade dividing the bedroom from the office. The room is dominated by a double bed framed by two fancy small night tables, with no lamps on them. To the North is the office. >read letter You clarify your throat, you feel some dryness, you take a deep breath, but then the sounds won't come out of your mouth, instead, you read the letter for yourself: You did never write a love letter to me, I did never rite a dead letter to you, neither did we. Emptied we are. How can I be somewhere else at the same time that I was being in you? It was impossible. I want you to share my coffin. I'd like you to experience my sarcophagus, I'lll cover you with my shroud so you will feel the warmth you used to feel before becoming alive again. How many times did you came through the cycle? How vast is your experience now? All right, so we are stuck here, we can't come out or come in again. How will you deal with it? How do you prepare for death? Are you ready? It doesn't look like, but I guess you are. You are inside you and nobody else is, do you like it? Are you trying to escape? Did you ever accomplished it? Are we sharing the experience? Are we sharing the flu? How will I fit in my coffin? Do you like it? What would happen if we exchange our skins? If you are reading this, you are not there, you are here, in my time but not in your own time, not in your present and your place but in mine, and I'm right here and right now. Aren't you jealous? If I'm thinking about you I am either here or now, so I am lying to you, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, I don't want to be untruth, but I am. How will I fit in my coffin? Will you follow me all the way through? Will it hurt? Aren't you jealous? Are you trying to escape? >inventory You are carrying: a long letter a tiny key >examine window A window to the East lets you see the sunny side of the garden. >examine closet A dark wood corner closet, its door is slightly open. >open closet In the closet's shelves there are bathroom supplies, some cleaning objects and products. In the bottom shelf there is a cardboard box. >take supplies You feel clean, and you don't want to clean anything around. Your physiological needs seem to be inexistent now, so you don't need toilet paper. >examine box A heavy cardboard box. >open box You place the box in the floor near the closet. You lift the lid of the box carefully revealing gift wrapping and packing paper enclosing some fragile objects, you are too afraid by their fragility to remove them from their place, instead, you tried lifting and moving parts of the wraps discovering a fine crystal jug and several glasses. It has an impressive (almost oppressing) bronze barred head framing. >sleep If you go to bed now, you are not sure about when or where you are going to wake up, not to mention that you are not very sure about where are you now. >examine night tables Two cute night tables at each side of the bed, nothing is on them. They don't have any drawer, just an empty shelf on each one. >north the office The room looks like a private studio, not to receive people, but to perform personal writing and reflexions. It has a window facing North from where the garden can be seen. The furniture in here is reduced to a big mahogany secretaire desk with a matching chair with its seat upholstered in black leather with brass tacks. To the West is the foyer. To the South is the bedroom >examine window A wide window with green mosquito netting and green venetian blinds from where the garden can be seen. >open window You try very hard to turn the handle to open the window, but it is not receding. >examine secretaire A massive mahogany secretaire desk with its lid closed. >sit For how long? And then what? Better not to get used to mundane pleasures in here. >open desk Carefully you slide lid open, it unveils a notebook and an open pencil case with some mechanic pencils and a shimmering silver pen. >examine notebook The notebook seems to be a diary notes, or a travel journey with dates, numbers and some gibberish. You decide to leave ir where it is, even if the temptation is tickling your hands. Phew! that was hard. >take notebook Phew! that was hard. (You leave the notebook in its place). >read notebook The notebook seems to be a diary notes, or a travel journey with dates, numbers and some gibberish. You decide to leave ir where it is, even if the temptation is tickling your hands. Phew! that was hard. >examine pencilcase The open pencil case reveals some pencils, one mechanic pencil and one shiny pen. >take pencilcase It is supposed to remain in there in case someone wants to write something. >examine pen You take the pen in your hands, you rotate its half and a tip shows, you rotate the pen again to the other direction and another tip shows. You try both tips in the back of your hand, they are not working, probably the ink has dried out. >take pen You take it with you, it might be useful some day. >examine pencil Different gradings of graphite pencils and a mechanic pencil. >take pencil You don't feel like writing or drawing right now. >write on notebook The ink is dry, and your hand feels cramped, you are not inspired to write. >close desk You slide the lid to its closed position again, it closes with a "click". >west (first opening East glass door) A whisper advises you to close the door after you, or the wind currents will enter the house, "all doors in the foyer must be always closed". foyer In front of the main entrance, in the only wall without doors, is a thin walnut console with a key hanger, a Carrara marble countertop and a framed mirror. There is one window facing North, a lot of light comes through it, the light appears to have a physical presence in the air by the flying dust and lint moving with laziness under the crisp limits of the sun beam. To the South is the swinging door to the corridor. To the East is a panel door, with eight glass lites, the funny odour intensifies in this direction, not unbearable though. >south (first opening a swinging door) The door swings back closed, the soft moving air is cold as a blizzard. dark spot of the corridor Carefully you step on the dark part of the corridor, you trip into some kind of structure that blocks your way into the darkness, you can barely distinguish some wooden ends, like chair or table legs, as if it was a pile of collapsed furniture. It is not that you are thrilled to know what is in the other side of the furniture pile, but you are still intrigued by it, maybe leave the exploration for another time. To the West you go back to under the skylight. To the North you can see an open door that leads to the living room. >west under the skylight The room seems like a long corridor, the light coming from the skylight is not very strong, you can't see further than a couple of meters. The floor is made of alternated red and yellow tiles, it feels cold, you are barefoot when you realize the piercing contact with the cold floor. To the West there are three dark doors. To the South, there is an empty wall. To the South East there is another door with a small tin sign. To the East you can vaguely imagine that the corridor goes on, but it is too dark to know that for sure. >examine door You are standing before a closed door, it has a small blue tin sign attached, it reads "Kitchen". >read sign You can't see any such thing. Remember, you can type help if you need assistance. >open door The tin sign reads "Kitchen". The door opens smoothly. corridor to the kitchen You can see a beam of sunlight coming from an undetermined spot in the tall ceiling. The walls are tiled in white, and the floor is alternated white and black slabs. The white slabs look eroded, they are no longer white but grey and rough. There is a large cupboard painted in bright orange. To the South you can see the kitchen. To the NorthWest is the skylighted corridor. >examine sun The strong beam reveals the shining tiles. Trying to obture the light, you notice that your hand is not producing a shadow, or that the source of the light remains unknown. >examine floor the erosion in the black and white alternated slabs reveals a lot of transit. >smell The pale aroma of old grains floats in the air. >examine cupboard The orange cupboard stands impressive against the white tiles, it has colourful empty wine bottles on top. >examine bottles Empty wine bottles aligned by color, blue, green, brown, yellow, and transparent. >take bottle It is not very practical to carry an empty glass bottle in your hands. >open cupboard You open the double doors of the orange cupboard, you see many glasses, and dishes, you analyse if you need anything from here, but you are not hungry, and as far as you know, you don't have anything to eat. >take glass You don't need anything from here >south kitchen The corridor continues into an elongated kitchen expanding to the side, it looks clean and tidy, still. It has a big window opening to a small concrete backyard, that you can see through the half-open venetian blinds. You become aware that is daylight outside. Under the window are the worktop and the sink, some cupboard doors that you don't feel like opening. In the wall opposite to the window there is a shelf with a teapot and some trays, and a narrow table with an orange flower pattern oilcloth. To the West there is another closed door, painted in dark green. To the North is the corridor. >examine blinds In the exterior of the window pane there are some decaying venetian blinds, painted in moss green, maybe it is real moss and not paint, never mind. >open window The countertop is between you and the window, it looks like it has been closed for ages. You hesitate whether or not it is a good idea to open the window at the risk of breaking the shabby blinds. There is no tea around, and you don't feel like messing around with kitchen stuff. >take teapot No room for a teapot in your life at this moment. >examine trays A rounded dark tray with carved yellow hummingbirds, behind it there is another tray that looks like an english landscape illustration, and a big heavy wooden tray is behind the other two >take trays What do you want a try for? It is not very practical to carry them around. >examine backyard The backyard has four lines to dry clothes with clothespins, the breeze swings the lines softly, it is surrounded by grey concrete walls. To the left there is a gallery with a red tiled roof and concrete columns, in its wall there is a wooden door that looks smaller than regular doors. The wall in front of the window where you are standing is almost entirely covered by a vine with yellow flowers, you can't tell exactly which plant species it is. The wall to your right has nothing in particular, just the hooks where the ropes are tied. >examine table The orange oilcloth matches the cupboard in the corridor, and the shellack on the legs of the table. There is a bread basket in one corner of the table. >look under table You crouch and rise the orange tablecloth to see what is under the table, in the furthest corner you see a thin, long, white object with a shiny cord attached to it. It is hard to tell what it could be under the table's shadow. >examine oblong An oblong light coloured object with a shiny cord attached. >take oblong The oblong object turns out to be an ivory fan. >examine fan A delicate ivory fan with a cut out flower pattern, the blades are hold together by a translucent silk textile that allows them to open to a 180 degrees angle. In the vertex it has a ring where a cord made of silver threads is tied, the cord ends in two diaphanous ornaments. >examine basket A small piece of bread lies in a wicker basket lined with a paper napkin. >take basket The basket doesn't seem to fit in your pockets, but maybe the bread does... >examine bread A small rounded loaf of bread, it looks old but not moulded. >take bread Taken. >eat bread You could eat it but it is too hard, probably it stayed on the table for too long, you don't dare, everything is too complicated to add a stomachache or a broken tooth to the equation. >examine tablecloth The orange oilcloth matches the cupboard in the corridor, and the shellack on the legs of the table. There is a bread basket in one corner of the table. >look kitchen The corridor continues into an elongated kitchen expanding to the side, it looks clean and tidy, still. To the South there is a door with a peephole framed by the end of the corridor, the corridor is as wide as the door is. Next to the door there is a big closet. In front of the closet, to the SouthWest of the corridor there is another door. Also, a narrower door with two ventilation grilles is located to the West. Remember, you can type help if you need assistance. >examine window A small window to the garden with a thin mosquito netting. The closet is almost empty, there is a bunch of cloth hangers without clothes on them. In the corner you spot one left rubber boot. >examine hanger Ten wire cloth hangers, alike the ones that the dry cleaners give you. >take hanger Taken. >take left rubber boot You turn the rubber boot upside down and a marble falls out of it bouncing everywhere in the corridor. You try the rubber boot in your left foot, it fits you perfectly, but it feels awkward to have only one boot, you leave it in its corner again. The experiment made your feet feel tired, and cold, and in need of protection, you curse the other boot for not being there while leaving the boot in its place >examine left rubber boot A left foot black rubber boot >examine bouncing object A small transparent glass cat's eye marble, it has an orange and a yellow stripes trapped inside. >take marble Taken. >south (first opening a door with a peephole) (first unlocking a door with a peephole) You turn the latch, the door is now unlocked and open, the garden reveals before you. Now, you can fully open the door and walk in the room. Everything looks tidy rather abandoned, a thin layer of dust covers every surface. There are two narrow beds and a small -very cute- night table. All the rubbish piles are gone, some nice old wooden chairs accumulate in a neat pile on the bed to the left. There is a closet from floor to ceiling in the wall behind the open door. The room has two windows, one to the South and one to the West, both have louvers, but some light comes through the slats. >examine left bed A single bed that looks quite narrow, it has a rustic faded green bedspread. They look a bit old but well kept, maybe they are intended for allocating a more guests than the regular inhabitants. Apart from the awkward positions of the chairs, there is nothing interesting about them that needs more analysis than your actual situation. >sit down For how long? And then what? Better not to get used to mundane pleasures in here. >examine right bed A neatly laid bed, waiting for someone to lay on it for quite a long time. Taken. >examine metal It is an antique copper coin, you don't know where it is from because of the corrosion and rust, only some leaves -similar to olive branches- are visible in one side. >examine south window A window to the South, the gaps between the slats allow you to see a garden in shadows, it has an enormous walnut tree, almost nothing grows under its crown, which is bigger than your field of vision and extends to your right. Apart from an eerie sensation, you don't feel any pain, all your parts are there, and your body feels normal in spite of being cold. >remove boots Now you've taken the trouble to unite them, it would be a shame to discard them. >inventory You are carrying: an antique coin a tiny key marble a cloth hanger bread ivory fan automatic pen with two colours (dried) ink a long letter >south (first opening a door with a peephole) the shelter You take the first breath of clean air noticing the contrast to the old stuffed air that you breathed all the time spent inside. The sun is shining brightly, your eyes are glared, you can't see. You blink many times. You manage to see a garden, bright green grass, some sparse plants and a barrier of trees in the background. The sun is so bright. You blink a couple of times more, between blinks you start noticing the contours of what look like people. They interweave in your blink, either the garden or the people. You try to focus, to concentrate. You are standing with the door at your back. At your feet there is a door mat made of wire to clean the mud from your shoes. The garden opens as a whole new world before your eyes. To the North there is an open garden, delimited far away by trees, it glows with a strange radiancy. Seems like there are some people in that direction. To the West extends a narrow path of concrete slabs, which ends next to a hut outlined from the vegetal background. You would have to get out of the shelter first. >smell The garden smells like humid grass, intense, sour, and vegetal. >examine mat A door mat made of plaited wire that is used to remove the mud from the garden before entering the house. >take mat That's hardly portable. >examine house It is a fine house, the walls are heavy textured and painted in white, some yellow simple ornamentation frames the entrance door. You wonder about running away, but there is a feeling that is asking you to remain -even if it is eery that you hear it as a voice in your head- you decide to remain where you are. Your eyes carefully traverse everything before you, the grass, the slabs of the path, a snail shimmering trail near your feet, the narcissus plants that border the path with their yellow flowers. If you look closer, you can even see the small drops of water paused in the leaves, not falling. Not just collected, not about falling. Just there. If you approach enough you can see the surroundings outside-in or upside-down. To the West there is a small hut, just like cubicle with a door and a window, you can't see inside it from where you are standing. To the East you can go back inside. >examine grass The grass shines bright in the sunny spots under the shadow of the tree. It looks dreamy. >examine tree An immense tree with a huge trunk and a wide crown. The foliage is full of immobile saturated green leaves. >examine fence Far away from where you are there is a fence disguised by dense plants, it is almost impossible to see it from here. >examine gate In the fence there is a gate, as it is far from you and covered with climbing plants, you can't see what is in the other side. You don't fell like going there now, you don't see the point in escaping, where would you go? >open gate The gate feels miles away, you are tired to walk all the way there, and you don't really want to leave the garden. >examine slabs Rough concrete slabs perfectly tessellated. ---smell the stones--- >examine stones Three stones are conveniently placed in a isosceles triangle in one of the slabs. >take stones Three rounded stones, they apear lighter than they really are. >inventory You are carrying: three identical stones an antique coin a tiny key marble a cloth hanger bread ivory fan automatic pen with two colours (dried) ink a long letter >smell stones Bringing the stones close to your nose you inhale profoundly. You won't touch it. >take nest Not even in dreams. >examine roof From below you can see red tiles fitting together. >examine door A wooden door painted in light coloured enamel, the enamel is peeled away in most of its surface. Probably it looked nicer a while ago. >open door The door is stuck, but it doesn't seem locked. You lean the weight of your body against the old wood panel and then it recedes and snaps open making a big scandal in the still ambient. It made you realise that there were no sounds for a while, not even birds, or wind, nothing even far away. Your spine shivers. You feel very lonely again, and now it is combed with a strange feeling of being watched that is not making you feel accompanied. You enter the small room, the ceiling has some small holes from where the light comes shaped into sunbeams remarked by the dust and lint that flying around because of your presence there. The stillness was disturbed by your sudden entrance, and is interrogating your presence there. hut The hut is very small and smells like dust and humidity. There is not much room to walk around. No more days remain on the place where the stack of days used to be. The remains of an image of a yellow wheat field half eaten by insects is followed by blurry numbers that could read 1938 as well as 1983. >take almanac It is bad luck to carry old calendars with oneself. >examine paper It looks wrinkled and yellowish by the rain that must fall also inside the room. Nothing can be read out of it, neither from the other papers. >take paper You take one of the pieces and you place it in your pocket. >inventory You are carrying: a wrinkled bit of paper three identical stones an antique coin a tiny key marble a cloth hanger bread ivory fan automatic pen with two colours (dried) ink a long letter >read paper It looks wrinkled and yellowish by the rain that must fall also inside the room. It is a safe. >open safe The safe is locked, it has two big keyholes, your tiny key could get lost in the hole if trying to use it in there. There is no point in using force here, it won't open. >examine lint The lint makes the light beams present in the room, it is moving quite fast because of your breath, it doesn't have where else to go really. >examine desk The desk's surface is covered in a thick layer of dust, nothing else seems to be there, not even underneath the filth. >open drawer You open the first two drawers and you find dust, more cobwebs, a tiny red spider who doesn't look very friendly. In the third drawer there is a box covered in a faded pink motif with flowers. >examine box A box covered in a faded pink motif with flowers. >take box You are not willing to steal such a precious object. >open box Carefully avoiding spiderwebs and other dirty obstacles you remove the box from the drawer, placing it on top of the desk. You lift the lid, that gives up easily releasing old air and bitter smell, you can't help wondering how long has been since anyone was in the room or opened the box. Inside the box are some black tight rolls of 35mm black and white negatives. You try to open some of them but you are afraid that they will break out of dryness (is ironic that the negatives are so dry inside this room that seems like it has been flooded many times during the rain season). Under the negatives appears a small envelope. >examine negatives Some curled and very dry photographic negatives. You decide not to manipulate them as they might become dust in your hands. >take negatives Better to leave all the negative in the box. >examine envelope An old dry small envelope, the paper looks yellow because the action of time. It can be a good idea to check the content of your pockets. >examine pockets You are carrying: a wrinkled bit of paper three identical stones an antique coin a tiny key marble a cloth hanger bread ivory fan automatic pen with two colours (dried) ink a long letter >use key to open envelope You remembered the tiny key in your pocket, carefully inserting the tip of the key in a small space between the layers of paper and making an expert move that you didn't know you were able to perform the envelope opens itself for you, displaying a set of black and white photographs whose edges are cut in a decorative fashion. >examine pictures What you see belongs to you forever. You are not an expert, but your intuition tells you that they must be very old. One of them is particularly strange, there is a garden, similar to the garden outside the window, but somehow different. There are some garden furniture pieces, two deck chairs, one short garden table with a pile of dishes, some empty soda bottles and some empty glasses. These are memories that few have cared to claim. In fact, nobody did, they were laying on the ground, getting wet with the rain, smelled by dogs, ready to fly away in the next window blow. As you examine the picture you notice that is very near your face, as if you were trying to discover something else. Something catches your attention from the corner of your eye, through the window. When you turn your face to see, there is nothing, actually the outside is barely visible through the layer of dust collected. Still, your heart beats and you swear to have seen something there. There is no more lint or dust in the air, the sun beams are not so present any more. Maybe it's time to go out of the hut. >take pictures You notice that the pictures have fallen out of your hand, they are in the floor, almost mimicking the other bits of paper. You collect the pictures that fell and you bend to pick the one in the floor. It is the picture with the empty chairs, the empty glasses and soda bottles. You notice that one of the pieces of paper is a calendar day, you read "11th August, St. Claire of Assisi, Saint Philomena, St. Chromatius and St Tiburtius". It must belong to the same calendar in the bookshelf. >take pictures After placing the pictures in the envelope you carefully save the envelope in one of your pockets, it doesn't feel so terrible but not so good either.
